84% of parental-leave employment claims closed at TADM within two months between 2023 and 2025

Speaking on 29 Oct, Minister of State Foo Cexiang urged employers using AI in HR to be open about its role, keep human contact at key moments such as interviews, and stay accountable for decisions.

MOM said work injury compensation insurance premiums are not priced by employees’ age and it has seen no evidence they affect the hiring of senior workers, but some employers have raised concerns about the cost and limited coverage of non-mandatory group medical insurance for older staff. The Tripartite Workgroup on Senior Employment is studying the issue and will share its recommendations later in 2026.

In a written parliamentary reply on 4 Nov, MOM said TAFEP received 166 age-discrimination complaints about job advertisements and hiring practices from January 2025 to September 2026, referred 162 to MOM, and that MOM took enforcement action in 122 cases, including suspending employers’ access to foreign workers and directing them to fix HR process lapses. It said the Workplace Fairness Act, due at end-2027, will make adverse employment decisions based on protected characteristics including age illegal.
