Political Office Salaries to Rise Up to 9% From October 2026 — First Change in 15 Years

Salaries for political office holders and Members of Parliament will rise by up to 9% from 15 October 2026 — the first change to the framework since 2011, following a review committee appointed in December 2025.

The benchmark salary for an entry-level minister (MR4) rises from S$1.1 million to S$1.8 million, an average annual growth of 3.6% since 2011 — the existing 40% discount for political service stays in place. In dollar terms, a minister at that benchmark sees roughly a S$100,000 increment. MP monthly allowances rise from S$13,750 to S$18,500.

The review committee’s benchmark methodology references the median annual income of Singapore’s top 1,000 earners across a range of professions — which is worth noting for employers, since it’s effectively a market-calibration data point for senior private-sector talent, not just a political pay figure.

PM Lawrence Wong framed the review around three principles: attracting capable people into political office, reflecting the ethos of service, and keeping remuneration transparent. As he put it, the changes are “ultimately about whether Singapore will continue to have the quality of political leadership we need to take our country forward.”
